Some comic fonts try too hard to look funny. Caper Comic Font takes a more natural approach. Patrick Griffin designed the typeface for comic-book lettering, with rounded forms and clear characters that remain easy to read. Canada Type published the family in 2008.
The design has a hand-lettered quality without becoming messy. Its rounded strokes give the letters a friendly personality. Comfortable counters also help the words stay clear at smaller sizes. That makes Caper Comic useful for speech bubbles, comic panels, captions, posters, and other display work. Canada Type also designed it to scale well, from small text to large signage.
Caper Comic Font Family
The Caper Comic Font Family contains four styles:
- Caper Comic
- Caper Comic Italic
- Caper Comic Bold
- Caper Comic Bold Italic
The regular style suits everyday comic dialogue. Bold works well for emphasis and larger lettering. Italic adds movement or a different voice to the design. The family also supports a wide range of Latin-based languages, including Central and Eastern European languages, Turkish, Baltic languages, and Celtic/Welsh.

Fonts Similar to Caper Comic
Patrick Griffin created several comic-oriented typefaces for Canada Type. Captain Comic is one related option. It draws inspiration from early-1970s comic lettering and gives the forms a contemporary treatment. Common Comic takes a different approach. Its designers built it for information-heavy comic balloon text while keeping the letters clear and scalable.
Caper Comic stands out because it combines comic-book personality with everyday readability. That balance makes it useful well beyond traditional speech bubbles.
